CASTRO, PARANÁ, BRAZIL – JANUARY 12, 2025 Nine-year-old boy was riding his bike down a steep hill when his brakes failed. As he rode uncontrollably at high speed downhill, he was startled by an obstacle in the form of a car parked perpendicularly across the road. He tried to shout that he didn’t have brakes to prevent a collision, but the driver of that vehicle had no time to react. He was just closing the gate to his house.
The boy jerked the handlebars off his bike and his foot hit a parked truck and fell off his bike. Causing an open fracture to his leg, as well as fractures to his arm and head. He had to undergo two surgeries, but fortunately he survived and will not have any lasting effects.
It was later found out that his bicycle was fine and the brakes were working normally. But the hill was so steep that the brakes were not very effective.
