ISTANBUL, TURKEY – AUGUST 9, 2026 29-year-old Moroccan man was shot and wounded by police after allegedly attempting to attack a traffic officer with a knife in Istanbul’s Fatih district. The suspect reportedly approached the officer under the pretext of asking a question before suddenly pulling out a knife and trying to attack him.
The officer avoided the attack and opened fire, hitting the suspect in the leg. The man reportedly attempted to flee but was shot again by another officer during the pursuit and subsequently detained. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the attacked officer also suffered minor injuries.
