ECATEPEC, STATE OF MEXICO, MEXICO – FEBRUARY 10, 2024 Yair Martín Romero Segura, known as “El Chorongo,” was a Morena candidate for federal deputy in District 16 (Ecatepec and Tlalnepantla, State of Mexico).
On February 10, 2024, he and his brother Joan were murdered in Santa Clara Coatitla, Ecatepec. The attack, involving firearms and bladed weapons, occurred around noon at the intersection of Hidalgo and Morelos streets. Yair Martín suffered multiple stab wounds, while Joan was shot.
The motive was a dispute over control of a mototaxi base. Yair Martín led a transport association, while the rival USON organization sought control. Suspect Enrique ‘N’ confessed to carrying out the attack under orders from USON leaders Misael Fragoso and Mickey Juárez. Footage shows about ten people participated in the assault.
César Emilio de Dios, alias “El Michoacano,” a USON leader, was also killed. The incident exposed tensions in the transport sector and the influence of organized crime in local politics.
