PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, USA – JANUARY 31, 2025 In the Northeast Philadelphia area, a serious aviation accident occurred in which a medical transport aircraft, a Learjet 55, crashed shortly after taking off from the local airport.
The plane took off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport around 6:06 pm local time and began rapidly losing altitude after only about 30-40 seconds of flight. It then crashed into a densely populated neighborhood near Roosevelt Boulevard and Cottman Avenue, close to the commercial area of Roosevelt Mall.
There were six people on board, including a patient – a child who was returning to Mexico after medical treatment, her mother, and the aircraft crew. Nobody survived.
The crash caused a massive explosion and subsequent fires that affected several houses and vehicles in the area. In addition to the victims on board, people on the ground were also killed, and dozens more were injured. The total number of victims, according to the investigation, was around seven to eight people, including two people on the ground.
