RÍO HONDO, ZACAPA, GUATEMALA – SEPTEMBER 24, 2026 Driver of a pickup truck died in a serious traffic accident on Ruta al Atlántico in the Llano Largo area. The accident occurred at kilometer 142 of the highway. According to rescuers, the driver lost control of the vehicle for reasons that have not yet been determined and crashed into a slope beside the road. He suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Local media have not yet released his identity or age.
Four other people were also traveling in the vehicle. Two women became trapped inside the cabin after the crash, and rescuers had to free them using hydraulic rescue equipment. The other two passengers, aged 16 and 17, were riding in the bed of the pickup truck. All four injured people were taken to Regional Hospital of Zacapa. The exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined, and authorities are continuing to investigate the case.
