WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH, USA – OCTOBER 25, 2026 Officer from the West Valley Police Department shot and killed 40-year-old Sebastian Cerda-Monti after the man attacked him with metal objects. The entire incident was captured on the responding officer’s body camera.
The incident occurred at around 8:45 a.m. at the TownePlace Suites hotel. Hotel employees had previously alerted police about a man who was reportedly inside a restricted storage area and threatening other people with a long object resembling a pole.
When the officer knocked on the door, Sebastian Cerda-Monti appeared holding two long metal objects resembling knives. Despite repeated commands, he refused to put them down or come outside. The officer then deployed pepper spray against him. However, the man remained behind the door and continued holding a metal rod.
Shortly afterward, he suddenly rushed outside and repeatedly attacked the officer with the metal rods. The officer fired several shots, causing the man to collapse to the ground. Responding officers administered first aid, but despite subsequent life-saving efforts, Sebastian Cerda-Monti was pronounced dead at the scene.
The case is being investigated by a team from the West Jordan Police Department. The officer who used deadly force was placed on temporary administrative leave following the incident, which is standard procedure in police shooting investigations.
