70-year-old woman was brutally murdered in her home by her own son, who lived with her in the same household. The man attacked her with a blunt object and inflicted a fatal head injury. After her death, he dismembered her body and engaged in postmortem cannibalism.
The body parts were subsequently found in various parts of the house, including the kitchen and freezer. Investigators conducted a crime scene analysis, an autopsy, and a psychological assessment of the perpetrator.
It revealed that the man suffered from severe, untreated schizophrenia. It also emerged that he had previously attempted to attack his mother several times.
According to the authors of the study, the case demonstrates the serious risks associated with untreated psychiatric disorders and the need for active psychiatric supervision of high-risk patients.
