MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC, CANADA – JUNE 22, 2026 Serious armed incident occurred in Montreal, Canada, in the Côte-des-Neiges area, near Decarie Boulevard and the local PA Supermarché supermarket. The event quickly escalated into a shootout between an armed man and the police.
According to police, patrol units responded to a report of a man with a firearm in the vicinity of the Hilton Montreal hotel. Upon arrival at the scene, immediate gunfire broke out, during which the attacker opened fire on responding officers.
During the incident, a police officer of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) was fatally wounded. Another officer was seriously injured but survived and was transported to hospital. A civilian who was in the area of the shooting also died. The attacker was subsequently shot and killed by police.
The entire area was immediately cordoned off, and residents were instructed to remain indoors. Nearby traffic routes were also closed, and a large-scale police operation lasted several hours.
According to investigators, the attacker acted alone and the exact motive has not yet been officially confirmed. There are reports that he may have been inspired by extremist ideology, but police have not confirmed these conclusions and the case remains under investigation.
