ANDRADINA, SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – MARCH 7, 2016 51-year-old Maria Aparecida Veloso, nicknamed “Cida”, was murdered by two gunshots on the street. It happened at night in the Stella Maris neighborhood, where shootings are quite common, so no one even called the police.
Her corpse lay on the sidewalk until morning. People walked past her, but they thought she was just drunk. It wasn’t until one man noticed the hole in his throat that he called the police.
Maria was a normal and unconflicted woman. She was not involved in any illegal activities, but she had a dark past. In 2014, her 26-year-old son, Kleber Henrique Veloso, was stabbed to death by his 15-year-old drug-addicted brother.
