Young Indian woman poisoned herself with insecticide

LOHARU, HARYANA, INDIA – AUGUST, 2025 19-year-old woman, Manisha, from the village of Dhani Lakshman, who worked as a teacher, went missing on August 11, 2025. She had gone to submit her application for a bachelor’s program in her hometown when she disappeared. The search for her succeeded only two days later, but tragically ended. On August 13, 2025, her dead body was found in a field in the village of Singhan.

At first glance, it appeared she had died a violent death. Her throat was slashed, and her head had been gnawed by wild animals. However, the results of the autopsy and police investigation shocked everyone: it was allegedly a suicide. A suicide note was later found, CCTV footage showed her buying insecticide at a shop, and traces of the insecticide were found in her blood. What initially looked like a slashed throat was actually caused by scavenging animals.

Many locals, especially her parents, refused to accept this explanation. They staged protests outside the hospital demanding justice and a new autopsy for Manisha. To prevent unrest, authorities even suspended several police officers and cut off internet services.

On social media, many conspiracy theories about her death began spreading online. Most exaggerated or altered facts to provoke strong emotions, claiming she had been brutally raped and calling for resistance against the authorities.
