PIURA, PERU – SEPTEMBER 8, 2026 24-year-old José Fernando Castillo Quevedo was shot in the Valle de la Esperanza area of the Castilla neighborhood. While he was talking with two other people, an armed attacker wearing a green shirt and denim shorts approached him and fired three shots at him from close range.

The shooter then fled in a white Tico. One of the men who had been talking with José Fernando Castillo Quevedo before the shooting also got into the same car. He is believed to have been the shooter’s accomplice. The victim worked as a cell phone technician and left behind his 22-year-old wife, Astryd Peláez, a seven-year-old daughter, and two brothers.
