CARUARU, BRAZIL – JULY 25, 2017 Danielly Josefa da Silva, 14, was a diligent student in the 9th grade of the Escola Teresa Nelma primary school in the Maria Auxiliadora district. She almost never received a grade other than an A, had many extracurricular activities, and her family had high hopes for her to one day attend a prestigious university.

Those plans were thwarted by her 17-year-old boyfriend. According to her father, he was a bad influence on her and distracted her from her studies. He forbade them from seeing each other. The boy didn’t like it and resisted.
On July 25, 2017, in the morning hours, while Danielly was on her way to school, he caught her on the street and attacked her with a pocket knife. He stabbed her twice in the neck. The intensity of the attack was so great that he nearly severed her head from her body. The girl fell to the ground and bled to death.
The attacker was arrested by military police. Since he was a minor, he did not receive a full sentence from the court. Criminal expert Dr. Cleomacio Miguel said he had no doubt that the attacker intended to kill her.
