MACEIÓ, BRAZIL – MARCH, 2012 A 15-year-old girl was murdered in the Santos Dumont complex in the Tabuleiro neighbourhood. She was identified only as “Cidiene”. A member of a local gang executed her at point blank range with a shot to her neck.
As the police investigation revealed, Cidiene did not live in the area at all. Nor did she have any gang affiliation. Probably the gangster just mistook her for someone else and she paid with her life.
Although the murder had many witnesses, because it is a densely populated area (favela), none of the victims cooperated with the police. If they had, they would have risked their own lives.
