MANAUS, BRAZIL – AUGUST 5, 2016 Miriane de Souza Araújo, 22, was murdered by two hitmen on a motorbike in the Petrópolis neighbourhood. She was a college student and was on her way with her two young nephews to a children’s festival.
The victim’s mother, 61-year-old Ana Maria de Sousa Braga, said there were rumours in the favela where her daughter lived that Miriane was having a sexual relationship with a married man. His wife often threatened to pay someone to murder her.
