MATI, DAVAO ORIENTAL, PHILIPPINES – FEBRUARY 10, 2017 Marlyn Manlaya Tabuclin, 26, was traveling with her boyfriend on a motorcycle when they were attacked by the gunman. The attack occurred in the Riverside Sudlon neighbourhood. She did not survive the attack, but her boyfriend, Randy Jayectin, managed to escape and was taken to hospital with injuries.
Randy later testified that they were riding a motorcycle when they were deliberately hit by a car. When they fell to the ground, they tried to escape across a grassy area and heard gunshots behind them.
During the police investigation, it was revealed that Marlyn worked as a stripper at a strip club. Many strippers are addicted to drugs, which led investigators to steer the investigation in that direction. But motive was never established.
