SALVADOR, BRAZIL – JUNE 2, 2022 21-year-old Maria Clara Souza Assunção and her 24-year-old boyfriend Gesse Altair Soares de Jesus were murdered in their car on Avenida Antônio Carlos Magalhaes. Gesse was just picking up his girlfriend at Honda, where she worked as a saleswoman. You may notice that he is still wearing his company t-shirt.

They were attacked by two men on a motorcycle who started shooting at them mindlessly. Maria was hit in the head and died instantly. Gesse tried to run away for a while, but eventually he was fatally hit as well. Witnesses said he was still breathing in agony for some time, but was pronounced dead on the way to hospital.
A police investigation revealed that Gesse had a prior criminal record for drug trafficking and property crime. It is quite likely that the murder has something to do with his criminal past. Maria’s family said she certainly did not know about his past. When they started dating, he already had a normal job and lived an orderly life.
