RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL Police operation took place in the Maré favela complex, during which one of the high-ranking members of the criminal organization Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP) was killed. According to Brazilian media, it was a man known by the nicknames “Gabigol” or “Coringa,” who belonged to the leadership structure of the group operating in that area.
Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP) is one of the main Brazilian criminal organizations, formed in Rio de Janeiro as a splinter faction of earlier groups. It is among the largest armed groups in the country and has long competed, especially with Comando Vermelho, for territorial control, particularly in the favelas.
