MANAUS, AMAZONAS, BRAZIL – AUGUST 15, 2025 68-year-old Nivaldo Costa de Oliveira was found dead inside a refrigeration compartment on board a ship docked at a local port. The body was discovered by workers who noticed a strong odor while handling cargo and subsequently found the dead man inside the vessel.

Nivaldo Costa de Oliveira worked as a ship laborer and, according to available information, had been missing for approximately three days at the time of his death. The last contact with him was recorded on August 12. His disappearance was reported, and a search was subsequently launched.
The case was immediately handed over to the police, and units of the criminal police and forensic pathologists arrived at the scene. The ship was secured, and surveillance footage from the port area was examined to help clarify the circumstances of the death.
One of the initial working hypotheses was the possibility of a sudden medical event, such as a heart attack; however, the official cause of death had not been confirmed at the time of the initial investigation, and the case remained open.
