ZAPOPAN, JALISCO, MEXICO – DECEMBER, 2017 17-year-old Juan Luis Lagunas Rosales was a star of the Mexican internet. He was best known on YouTube as “Pirata de Culiacán”, where he posted videos with a reach of millions. But his other social networks weren’t far behind. He had nearly 800,000 followers on Facebook, 330,000 on Instagram and 37,000 on Twitter. His fame was mainly due to funny videos of him drinking alcohol until he fell unconscious.

In December 2017, he posted a video in which he crudely insulted one of Mexico’s biggest and most dangerous drug lords. Specifically, the leader of the CJNG cartel, 51-year-old Nemesio Ocegera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho”. He said he can suck his dick.
Thanks to the influencer’s huge reach, his video reached Cervantes himself. His reaction didn’t wait long. The YouTuber’s home was raided by armed cartel commandos and the poor Rosales was killed by 15 bullets.
