Hydrops fetalis, sometimes written as hydrops foetalis, is a condition of an individual characterized by the accumulation of fluid in the body cavities. If the disease is discovered during pregnancy, it can be treated quite effectively with blood transfusions while still in the womb, or by administering medication to the mother. Treatment greatly increases the chances of survival of the newborn. The newborns in the photos weren’t so lucky.
