PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, USA – JUNE 26, 1984 In June 1984, the area of the city of Providence was shaken by a series of brutal murders that were later linked to the serial killer Raymond Lassor.
The first known victim was Lorie Carlucci (22), a local woman who occasionally worked as a sex worker in the city center. On June 26, 1984, her body was found in an abandoned parking lot near a construction site on Gaspee Street. The autopsy confirmed that she had been strangled by hands, and she also bore signs of a very violent sexual assault that occurred after death. Her body was left partially clothed.
During the following months, two other women were murdered within a very small area of just a few blocks – 18-year-old Wanda Sue Adams and 58-year-old Delores Neuser. All three cases showed a similar modus operandi, but the investigation did not produce any suspect for a long time.
The turning point came in September 1984, when 14-year-old Carrie-Ann Talbot survived a brutal attack and rape. After escaping, she provided the police with key information that led to the identification and capture of the perpetrator. After his arrest, Raymond Lassor was confronted with photographs of his victims and eventually confessed to all three murders. The case ended with his conviction to a life sentence in prison.
