IMO STATE, NIGERIA – AUGUST, 2015 Three women were hit and run over by a distracted truck driver. All three suffered fatal injuries. One of them even had her cranial cavity completely open. It is not known if the women were pedestrians or if they were traveling in the white vehicle that can be seen in one of the photos.
Road safety in Nigeria has long been problematic and is one of the biggest risks for drivers and pedestrians. In 2023, 1.19 million people died there as a result of road accidents. This makes Nigeria, according to the Global Road Safety Report, the 13th most dangerous country in the world in terms of the chances of dying in a road accident there.
