LA VEGA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – MARCH 17, 2025 In the community of Los Basora, in Villa Cutupú, a young woman was murdered. The victim was identified as 20-year-old Mayelin Castillo. Her partner, 32-year-old Wilson Lantigua, attacked her with a knife during an intense argument in front of their young daughter. He severed an artery in her neck, and she bled to death.

The subject of their argument was allegedly Mayelin’s unwillingness to continue their relationship. Wilson was often chronically jealous and physically assaulted her.
After the act, Wilson unsuccessfully attempted suicide, was detained by the police, and handed over to justice. He now faces charges of murder, or feminicide as Dominican laws call the killing based on gender.
