MOCA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – MARCH 3, 2025 After several weeks of searching, the dead body of 33-year-old taxi driver Alfred Joel Fernández, who had been missing since the end of January 2025, was found. His disappearance triggered an extensive investigation and public search because the circumstances of his last ride appeared suspicious.
According to the investigation, the man left his home in the Moca area in the province of Espaillat on January 22 to carry out a taxi job. Shortly afterward, he stopped contacting his family and his phone became unreachable. The family later stated that they received a disturbing message from him in which he indicated that he was in danger.
His vehicle was found abandoned in the Santiago area, which further increased concerns that he may have been a victim of a violent crime. Police and specialized units subsequently launched an extensive search that lasted several weeks and included searches of rural and urban areas in the region.
His body was eventually discovered on March 3, 2025, in the La Soledad area near Moca. At the time of discovery, it was in a heavily decomposed state and, according to forensic experts, showed signs of violence. Identification later confirmed that it was the missing taxi driver.
The case is being investigated as a probable murder, and police are working with several theories regarding the motive, including the possibility that he may have been the victim of a premeditated attack linked to organized crime. Some individuals suspected of involvement in the act were detained or killed during police operations.
