Couple executed by highway

IQUITOS, PERU – MARCH 24, 2024 Gerson Miguel Bustamente Perez, 26, and his girlfriend Jennifer Flores, 23, were driving to pick up their friend on the highway when his car broke down. But their friend wasn’t waiting for them at the scene, instead a hit man was there to execute them both. Gunshot marks indicate they tried in vain to escape.

The investigation found that Perez had a criminal history. He had a criminal record and proven ties to the Los Malditos de Gito gang. But his last criminal record was from 2017 and he was likely living a clean life at the moment. He and his girlfriend had only been together for three years, so she might not have known.

Some sources say that a third person was injured at the scene, a friend of the couple who came with them. But she survived and is still recovering in the hospital.
