PIJIÑO DEL CARMEN, MAGDALENA, COLOMBIA – JULY 18, 2026 Traditional Festival del Bocachico celebrations ended tragically. Thirty-eight-year-old José Luis Molina Oliveros, a father of two and a local fisherman, entered the arena during the traditional corralejas.

According to witnesses, José Luis decided to provoke the bull and attract its attention. When he then tried to run back toward the safety barrier to escape the enraged animal, the bull caught up with him and violently gored him with its horns. Footage captured the animal repeatedly ramming José Luis against the fence while other participants tried to help him.

The attack caused several deep puncture wounds. According to local media, José Luis suffered, among other injuries, severe wounds to his abdomen and back, and one of the wounds penetrated so deeply into his body that it injured his lungs and exposed his internal organs.

People at the scene eventually pulled José Luis out of the arena and got him to an ambulance, which headed toward a hospital in Mompox in the neighboring department of Bolívar. Due to the extent of his injuries, however, he died during the transport.
